Pointing in Yorkshire 2017
Staintondale at Charm Park-  Monday 17th April

By Will Milburn & Caroline Smith

The Staintondale point-to-point host their traditional Easter Monday meeting at Charm Park, near Scarborough. 93 entries have been received for the meeting, the first race is at 1.30pm.The opening race is the YAPPC rider's members race, which allows riders who are classed as a novice an allowance. Asheanymoney has won two this year but will need to step up again to take this, even with a weight allowance, Colorado Kid will appreciate better ground and ran well at the Holderness, Harris is in good form and only just missed out on the hat trick last time to come second. Impact Zone looks a shadow of his former self but was a good fourth recently, he appreciates faster conditions and can go well, whilst Monsieur Jourdain holds numerous entries this weekend but has a good record at Charm Park, Will Easterby could also have the choice of Things Change and My Old Piano. Path To Freedom takes another step up after winning his Restricted at Sheriff Hutton, he looks a progressive type who should go well. The interesting runner could be Kashmir Peak, formerly with Dan Skelton he never landed a blow at the highest level but contested races such as the triumph hurdle and other big handicaps on the flat and over hurdles and in his earlier days held a hurdle mark of 139.
Selection - Kashmir Peak

The second race is the Restricted and several of these are entered the day before at Witton Castle, these include Crazy Penguin, Yoohoof, Kahn Do It, Danny Mags and Marthas Benefit, the latter was a good fourth here at the Derwent meeting where she had Our Jj ahead in third, she has improved with each run this season and it would be no surprise if she could turn the form around. Our Jj broke his maiden at Duncombe Park, he can be forgiven an early blunder as his previous third came in a hot Restricted. Zandino would have claims on the best of his form but has looked regressive this season and is best watched, whilst Refusal always runs his race and should be on the premises. Selection - OurJj

The Mixed open has drawn several contenders from out the area, these include All Great An Theory who has been runner up twice this year, along with For Yes who has been running in the North. Close House was third in a strong Open race at Askham Bryan and he was challenging when falling at the last at the Derwent meeting, Harris again could contend this and would have every chance, whilst Royal Deal ran an excellent race to be third in the Grimthorpe Gold Cup, he is a quirky individual who is better over a stiffer trip. Prince Of Pirates is shaping well and cases can be made for Newspage, Fever Pitch and Classinaglass who in his day would have every chance, but he looks a shadow of his former self and hasn't run since the Sinnington meeting.
Selection - Close House

The Confined race doesn't appear to have any one stand out performer so could turn into an open race, this looks a logical step for Asheanymoney but will need to improve further, Close House could opt for this as he avoids any penalties along with the improving Path To Freedom, Peter From Paris has been running well all year and looks to stay well, he would have every chance here along with Prince Of Pirates who has not been disgraced in either of his runs this year.
Selection - Prince Of Pirates

The penultimate race is the Open Maiden and About Time has been placed the last twice including a close second at Sheriff Hutton, he's on the upgrade and will likely go close. Clashganny was just behind About Time last time, but this longer trip should suit him, Dibble Bridge has been a maiden for some time, he usually has a say but struggles to win, Frosty Dawn is another who would appreciate  a stiff test, she found Askham Bryan all too quick and could never land a blow, whilst Impulsive Act is yet to make his appearance but was an encouraging third on debut last year. Monarch's Glory looks an out and out stayer and will need to step up a notch or two as Raymond Reddington was ahead of him at Sheriff Hutton last time. One that catches the eye on pedigree is Silvers West, a 4yo by Westerner trained by Nicky Tinkler who knows how to ready one, he cost 28,000 as a 3yo and is from the family of top class chaser Snoopy Loopy and is one to keep an eye on.Selection - About Time

The final race is a conditions maiden for horses that have never been placed in the first three. Cheat Fairly has been doing well without threatening the judge and is tied in closely on form with Rock N Stones on Askham Bryan form, Perusal made a likable debut in points, but again it's worth noting the Nicky Tinkler debutants, Silvers West also holds an entry here, but Indian Hawk could be equally effective at getting the job done, a 5yo by Indian Danehill, Indian Hawk fetched 36,000 as a 3yo, he is a first foal out of the dam who has an excellent pedigree. Selection - Indian Hawk
