There are 62 entries for the Hurworth point to point this weekend at Hutton Rudby, there is a six racecard starting at 12-30 with the Hunt Members race. The meeting plays host a shopping village consisting of some fantastic stalls, entry is £12.50pp and under 12’s are free, the post code for SAT Nav users is TS15 OJL.
The opening Hunt Members race has 8 entries and Phil Greaves always has a strong hand in this, his prolific and consistent Neville Woods is 15 now but continued to run well last season, however he could have a new recruit with Black Scorpion, formerly trained in Ireland where he reached a mark of 130, his form has tailed off of late where more recently trained by Sarah Jane Davies. Sartorial Elegance could have the best form in the race but will have a 10lb penalty to burden, whilst Vent d’Automne showed some useful form when winning at Sheriff Hutton on seasonal debut, but ran out on his latest start and can be forgiven that.

Selection – Sartorial Elegance

The second race is a Conditions race, recent Charm Park winner Ask To Dance has improved with each run this season and another step forward could be expected. Mr Pepperpot was second of only two finishers in a hunter chase most recently and that form shouldn’t be taken at face value, Rossderrin continues to progress after finishing second to Mustmeetalady at Dalton Park and should again make the frame, whilst The Great Phoenix won a brace of race early in the season in impressive fashion but looks to have found his level recently. Cool Desire unseated in the Open at Charm Park and went on to run in the Intermediate later on in the card where he chased home the useful Sine Nomine and if on song could be the one to beat.

Selection – Cool Desire

The Ladies Open could see another good effort from Game As A Pheasant, he has been hugely consistent this season and can be relide upon to put in another good performance. Hawkhurst is a useful performer between the flags, he can proove to be slightly quirky but he is in good form and his current rider seems to get on well with him, whilst Supremely Lucky put up a good display on his first point start when third in an Alnwick Ladies Open and can go close again. Another who should be noted is Kildaven Spider who finished second at this meeting last year.

Selection – Hawkhurst

The Mens Open has a couple of stand out entries, one of which is Steely Addition who was an easy winner on his point return at Duncombe Park however dissapointed some what next time at the Brocklesby meeting and the heavy ground could have been to blame that day. Tidal Flow was a very useful performer when with Philip Hobbs including a brace of easy wins in novice chases. Sartorial Elegance and Game As A Pheasant also hold entries and would go well if taking their chances.

Selection – Steely Addition

The penultimate race is a Veterans Horse Conditions race, Mr Snuffles returned to form at Bangor last time when only narrowly beaten, Path To Freedom has been campaigned under rules this season, however recently switched back to points and started with a fourth in a Leicester Hunter Chase. Benarty Hill ran well here last season when finishing fourth and Shantou Tiger and Wonderoftheworld could both have outside chances after been campaigned mainly in Hunter Chases, however Minella Fair who was a talented recruit in Ireland has put up some good efforts so far, including most recently a close second to Smoke Man and this could be a good chance to give Lois Teal her first winner.

Selection – Minella Fair

The final race is an Open Maiden and has 19 entries, Benny Baloo was in the process of running a nice race last weekend at Dalton Park until unseating three out, Black Aphrodisiac is lightly raced but has finished runner up on all three runs and this would be the first time he has produced two runs in the same season. Elusive Secret showed form in Ireland but has failed to build on that so far in England and may have more to come in the future, whilst Red Opium had showed very little until a close second at Dalton Park recently and looks as though she could fulfil her pedigree been out of prolific winner Poppy Day. Mithmaar was a respectable third last time at Larkhill and could also have a say, however Fascinating Rhythm was a close third on debut in a Duncombe Park bumper and was close up when unseating two out at Charm Park since.

Selection – Black Aphrodisiac
