Sinnington Point to Point Preview

Duncombe Park will play host to the Sinnington point to point this weekend at Helmsley on Sunday 6th
February, 110 entries have been received for what is now an eight race card due to the division of the
Open Maiden and concludes with a bumper run over 2 miles. Always a fantastic setting which produces
some competitive racing, the viewing from the hillside is excellent and the first race gets under way at
12pm which is the Hunt Members race, for anyone wishing to attend the postcode is YO62 5EB.
Will Easterby always likes to have a strong hand in his local Hunt Race and this yer looks no different, 11
entries have been received and the Easterby team have three otions, Black River looks the best of them
but is having his first start of the season and may be vulnerable to some more race fit competitors, whilst
Lottie Crane also holds a strong hand and recent Sheriff Hutton runer up Show And Go could again tke a
step forward, he improved with racing last year and this sharper track could play to his strengths, Lottie
also has the choice of Ballinahow Bill but he has yet to recapture his old form. Guy Brewer’s Point The
Way won a brace of Hunter Chases last season and looked a useful stayer, he may be more effective
over a stiffer track but clearly has plenty of ability and comes here after finishing fourth at Alnwick, his
stablemate and yard debutant River Frost was a recent purchase from Doncaster sales where he was
previously with Ben Haslam, previously he reached a rating of 145 when in his prime with Alan King and
could be a competitive new recruit.
Selection – Show And Go
The second race is a Conditions race and several of these hve been double entered, Jack Teal has his
string in fine form this term and Burrenbridge Hotel showed a good level of form in 2020 when beating
Monbeg Chit Chat, he returned from a lengthy break at Sheriff Hutton where he tired late on, with the
benefit of a run and this easier track he could fair better. Game As A Pheasant has done nothing but
improved this season and has already run five times, although he must burden an 8lb penalty he is
nothing but consistent and will not doubt be close at the finish, another who has proven consistent is
Rosderrin for Rosie Howarth, he has taken the step up in grade well and his second to Smoke Man last
time would give him leading claims. The class horse in the race coud be Steely Addition trained by Chris
Dawson, previously trained by Chris to win a Hexham Maiden, he was then sold to Phil Hobbs where he
won four times and reached an official rating of 150 at his best, his form has tailed off slightly but a
revival to his best would see him hard to beat. Roycano made a pleasing return to action at Sheriff
Hutton and should improve, whilst Vent d’Automne put up an excellent round of jumping to give 24yo Lily
Frank her first winner, he had some useful form in Ireland and if he can continue on an upward curve
could be hard to catch from the front.
Selection – Game As A Pheasant
The Restricted coud see several southern contenders, the strongest of which coud be Alfoski, he beat
the reaposing Tres Francais early in the season at Revsby Park who has since won his Maiden at
Barbury Castle for trainer Alan Hill. Go Go Geronimo is very consistant in points and will no doubt find a
race of this nature soon but continues to bump in to one too good, whilst the progressive mare Sine
Nomine got off the mark at Alnwick last time, she is a progressive sort who will no doubt improve further
with time. Barrack Hill and and Cool Desire can both do well but may have to settle for place claims.
Selection – Sine Nomine
The Mixed looks a very exciting race with some top class performers such as Dubai Quest and
Hawkhurst, the latter is known for his quirky attitude but has plenty of ability and if putting his best foot
forward can go close, however the Tom Ellis trained Dubai Quest is the winner of his last 6 races and
was the easy victor of a Fakenham hunter chase last season. Kilkishen won a hunter chase at Kelso last
season and ws going well when coming to grief at Cheltenham, however he put up a very laclustre effort

at Sheriff Hutton where he pulled up after a circuit and must be treated with caution. Matts Commission
has shown a decent level of form in points and lthough should go well, may fall short against the
southern raiders.
Selection – Dubai Quest
The Veteran race is for horses aged 9yo and up, Black River could find a good opportunity here as he
escapes and penalties for his success in 2020, Clondaw Westie was runner up at Barbury Racecourse
last time, Mr Pepperpot was narrowly denied last time at Friars Haugh, however recent recruit to the
pointing field Minella Fair could be the danger after finishing second to Kalabalo at Alnwick and three
starts back was third in the Theyestes Chase at Gowran Park, he is a horse with plenty of class and
could give Lois Teal her first winner. Peacocks Street was consistently placed in Hunter Chases last
season and can go very well now dropped back in to points.
Selection – Minella Fair
The Open Maiden has been divided with 15 entries in each division, division one looks a good
opportunity for Go Go Geronimo after numerous placed efforts, Kimberly Boy is another who looks as if
he should win a maiden after two good efforts last term, whilst Tom Cody looked a winner waiting to
happen after his second at Hexham where the front two pulled well clear of the rest (the third has won
twice since), this easier track and better ground may help show a revival. The Whiskey Man had some
good form in Ireland and may improve for his recent fourth, Baron Nelson was second in a novice hurdle
last year for Nicky Henderson and looks to have the ability of winning a maiden, however recent Sheriff
Hutton runner En Couleur was unfortunate to depart at the first, he was a close third at Market Rasen on
his last start under rules and looks well fancied to get off the mark here.
Selection – En Couleur
Division two looks slightly more competitive and the North Shropshire runner Black Aphrodisiac is a
lightly raced 8yo but has been second on his only two starts, he was well beat last time but it looked a
hot race and cn likely figure here. Desjay stayed on well to be fourth at Sheriff Hutton, he looks as
though a stiff test of stamina would suit, Wireless Operator has been placed on his both starts in points
for Tom Ellis and The Whistle Blower put in a good effort to be third at Sheriff Hutton for the Jonathan
Barlow team who look to be in good health this season. The main threat could be The New Kid who was
narowly beaten last time by Champion Chase who has since run well again. Elusive Secret was fourth on
his last start in Ireland in November, a son of Elusive Pimpernel he could be worth noting on his British
debut.
Selection – The New Kid
The final race is a point to point flat race run over 2 miles, the only one with any racecourse experience
is Anacondas Command and Penny Dance, the latter was a well held fourth in a Revsby flat race for
Tom Ellis. Fascinating Rhythm is brother to two winning middle distance flat horses who both performed
to ratings in the mid 60’s to 70’s. Is So Cute Dimaria was a 10,000 euro yearling from Irelnad and is by
group 2 winning stayer Fly With Me, Norse Lake is trained by Francesca Poste so will surely know the
time of day, he is half brother to Miss Zip who was a triple chase winner under rules, albeit at a low level.
Pop The Question is out of thorough stayer Poppy Day and her progency have looked to need time,
Purse Price is another for Cherry Coward and is sister to Midtech Valentine who was placed twice in
bumpers as well as numerous wins over hurdles. Dale Peters can usually get one ready, however
Ronaldoreturns is out of Asmahan who only raced twice on the flat depositing her jockey after leaving the
stalls both times, so hopefully he hasnt inherited his mothers attitude. The only thing to go on here is
pedigree and the one with the best breeding looks to be Looselipssinkships, she is sister an impressive
maiden point winner and also half sister to Cannon Fodder who after been paced in bumpers developed
in to a nice staying hurdler/chaser reaching official ratings around 130.
Selection – Looselipssinkships
